The Sony first-party developer Insomniac Games is confirmed to be developing a brand new multiplayer IP. With the highly anticipated Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 releasing in just a few months on October 20, and Marvel’s Wolverine being revealed by the developer in 2021, this multiplayer project is effectively the third game that Insomniac has in current development.

Early speculation that Insomniac Games was working on a new IP arose back in May, when the game developer posted a job listing for an Art Director who can assist in “pre-production planning and new IP development with creative directors.” It has now, however, been confirmed in a statement from a Project Director at Insomniac.

Insomniac Games Project Director Confirms the Developer is Working on an Unannounced Game

In an interview conducted by Full Sail University, Project Director at Insomniac Games, Erin Eberhardt, shares that she has been working on an unannounced AAA project. The interview was posted in September of 2022, but has only now been discovered by the masses due to a tweet from @Dream_WaIker on Twitter.

During the interview, Eberhardt also mentions that she’s been at Insomniac for “almost a year,” which matches up with the timeline for a previous job listing for a multiplayer project from Insomniac Games just a year prior, in 2021.

With all of this information, in addition to PlayStation’s recent commitment to live-service titles, which was reflected in the console’s latest multiplayer-centric PlayStation Showcase, it’s safe to assume that Insomniac’s new game will be a new multiplayer IP. As for specifics, we’re not sure what type of game this new Insomniac project will be or whether it will be a live-service game or not.

Regardless, expectations are high for any new Insomniac game, and gamers are eager to see what the developer has in store, as was reflected by its recent Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 story trailer that amassed over 8 millions views in just 4 days.
